About the Friends of NIDA

Friends of NIDA:

Is a non-profit 501c3 comprised of a group of individuals, scientific and professional societies, patient groups and other organizations committed to the elimination of drug misuse and substance use disorders through education, advocacy, and the promotion of broad public and private support for the research agenda of the NIDA. The Friends of the NIDA advocates for a level of resources for NIDA that reflects the tremendous personal, social and economic burden of drug misuse and substance use disorders. Friends of NIDA operates similar to other Friends of NIH Institutes by leading alliances, partnerships and sponsoring hill day events to help support and advance research for the NIDA.

Our Mission:

ENHANCE, promote and support activities to sustain NIDA funding and foster greater public understanding of NIDA’s role in research and public education, and to assist the Institute in rapid and effective transfer of scientific data for the benefit of all people affected by drug misuse and substance use disorders.

LEAD the Nation in bringing the power of science to bear on drug misuse and substance use disorders.

REDUCE the negative consequences of drug misuse and substance use disorders for individuals and communities by bolstering and disseminating research supported by NIDA.

EDUCATE individuals, health care providers, communities & policy makers on empirically-demonstrated interventions, services and treatment that improve health outcomes.
